Riding out of town, our first days’ cycling takes us to the Northern most point of Thailand. Here we enjoy the well-surfaced roads and mostly flat terrain, with views towards the nearby mountain range. Enjoy the peace and tranquillity of cycling through these local villages. Our first destination on this Tour of Lanna is the legendary Golden Triangle. Here we take the opportunity to explore the road side markets and see the giant golden Buddha sitting at the meeting point of Thailand, Burma, & Laos. Take an optional tour of the Opium Museum or a boat trip on The Mekong River. Our hotel tonight, The De River Resort, situated on the bank of the Mekong River presents a stunning view of Laos.
Date 3 : Golden Triangle - Chiang Khong
Today we begin to venture deeper into rural Thailand. We follow the gently rolling hills along The Mekong River taking the odd rest break to catch our breath and soak up the spectacular views facing Laos. One long climb is richly rewarded by experiencing the daily lives of the local people in a stunning hilltop village. Tonight’s hotel, The Namkhong Riverside, has a privileged position on the bank of the River and has striking views towards Laos, while Northern Thai style decorations add to the ambiance. Take advantage of a therapeutic massage to relax after your day’s efforts, and be pampered by healing hands!
Date 4 : Chaing Khong - Theong
Today is a challenging, but spectacular day. We encounter some steep climbs through remote farming communities while enjoying breathtaking views. High in the mountains we will pause at roadside stalls for refreshments, and will lose ourselves in the real Thailand. Enjoy the exhilaration of the long downhill stretches; however you’ll need to be wary in sections as you descend through some very sharp corners. Awesome cycling! Thoeng is a small town way off the normal tourist trail. Here we see life as the Thais live it, with its bustling market and thriving temple. We stay in a clean, simple comfortable hotel, The Roong Thoeng Place, where we are greeted with wonderful Thai hospitality. This evening we will drive to an amazing remote cliff top location to enjoy an unforgettable sunset over Laos.

The day finishes with a long, rapid, downhill arrival into Lampang, a town renowned for its horse and carriage rides. We’ll exchange pedal power for horse power and tour the city in one and wander the local night markets where you can enjoy many different local specialities cooked by the roadside.
